Welcome new students and returning students to Jordan High School Media Center. Be sure to check out the new books on display near the circulation desk. There’s something for everyone: mystery, romance and much more!

We also want to encourage all students who love to read to join the Jordan Book Club this year. We will kick off on Thursday, September 17th, at 2:45 in the Media Center with Sherman Alexie’s book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian. Copies of the book are available now for check out. Also at the first meeting of the year, all members can suggest books for this year’s reading list. All suggestions welcome but you have to attend to be heard! For more information on Jordan Book Club, go to the Book Club tab above.

February is a busy month: Black History Month, Valentine’s Day and, yes, even Library Lovers Month! Show how much you love your library this month by checking out a book that commemorates a person or event in the history of African-Americans and register to win a prize. We will also feature famous love stories this month like Gone With the Wind, Jane Eyre, A Tale of Two Cities, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Love in the Time of Cholera, Cold Mountain, Their Eyes Were Watching God and many more. Books often have a profound and lasting effect on children. Many celebrities have shared their favorite books from childhood on the website, “What Got You Hooked,” at http://www2.firstbook.org/whatbook/favorites.php. Why not go to the site and see if your favorite childhood book is represented? Then reply to this post and tell us about the book(s) that you read as a child that spurred an interest in reading.
