Men's Soccer Team Finishes Year Unbeaten!
Monday, 02 November 2009

Jordan’s Men’s Varsity Soccer team finished the season with an unprecedented 19-0-0 record.  The team won the 4-A Pac 6 conference with a conference record of 10-0-0.   Head Coach Steve Turner could not be prouder of his boys.   “Every player on this team has made a valuable contribution,” said Turner recently at Senior Night.  And what a contribution they made.  It is the first time in school history the team has won all games played!

The team gained momentum early in the season with big wins against Enloe (3-1), Green Hope (4-1), and Broughton (2-1). The trend continued in conference play with wins against East Chapel Hill (2-0) & Riverside (2-1).  Joaquin Del Rosario leads the team in goals with 14.  Midfielders Matt Feigler, Ted Mullin, Ezra Ntirugelegwa, Jon Ray & Brian Roque combined for another 32 goals and 28 assists.  The defense is lead by Seniors Sonny Mukungu & Kyle Stuart (Keep).  Along with Christian Bowers, Nolan Cain, and Mark Harris they allowed only 5 goals all season.

The team is currently ranked #1 in the State, # 3 nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and #4 nationally by ESPN.  Hats off to these fine young athletes!

Autism Speaks! Raises Awareness on Campus
Friday, 23 October 2009
Autism Speaks! is Jordan's newest club whose purpose is to raise awareness with students and the Jordan community about autism, as well as raise funds for research and represent the mission and goals of the national organization here on our campus.  Spencer Hawkins, Freshman counselor and parent of an autistic child, is the club's advisor and Jordan Senior Abby Harris (whose cousin is autistic) is the club's leader and founder.  At our second club meeting, the club hosted a guest speaker, Laura Bono, mother of JHS senior Jackson Bono (pictured above with club founder, Abby Harris). Mrs. Bono is on several local and national boards of autism advocacy and research organizations. She talked to club members about the markedly upward trend in autism diagnoses over the last 20 years, the impact an autistic child can have on a family, and what her son's experience as he's journeyed through the public school system. Upcoming first semester meetings for Autism Speaks! will occur in room 112 at 2:40 on the following dates: October 28, November 18, and December 16.

FFA Plants Azaleas on Campus
Monday, 19 October 2009

Jordan High School recently received a donation of 38 white azalea plants from NC Beautiful. The azaleas were planted by members of the FFA, Environmental club and the PTSA after school on October 15th.

John Archibald, a parent and member of the school PTSA, applied for the azaleas through a grant with N.C. Beautiful, a program that has provided environmental education and beautification opportunities that elevate the quality of life of North Carolinians for over 40 years. We hope that the azaleas will be enjoyed by the Jordan community.
