ESL History Class Creates Slavery Museum at Jordan Media Center
Monday, 01 March 2010

Students in Ms. Bulpett's 2nd Period ESL U.S. History class created and opened a Museum Exhibit, "Life During Slavery." Students chose specific aspects of life during slavery on which to research and create individual exhibits. Topics included Religion in the Slave Community, The Slave Trade in America, Durham Area Slaves and many others.

Students spent a week researching and becoming experts on their particular aspect of slavery before presenting their findings to museum guests which included teachers, administrators and Ms. Marshall's class.

“I was really blown away by how creative and informative the exhibits were,” notes Ms. Bulpett.  “I even learned a new thing or two with some of the exhibits and I'm very proud of the hard work and time students put into creating our Museum.”

Threater Classes Perform Noises Off
Friday, 19 February 2010

Jordan High School Theater Department will present Michael Frayn’s play, Noises Off, Thursday through Saturday, February 25 – 27 at 7:30pm in the school auditorium.  Admission is $10.  In this zany comedy, Frayn examines the concept of a play within a play, in this case a dreadful comedy titled Nothing On.  Each of the three acts of Noises Off contains a performance of the first act of Nothing On.

Act One is set at the dress rehearsal, the night before opening at the (fictional) Grand Theatre, with the cast still fumbling with entrances and exits, missed cues, misspoken lines, and bothersome props, most notably several plates of sardines.  Act Two portrays a Wednesday matinee performance one month later at the (again fictional) Theatre Royal and is seen from backstage, providing a view that reveals the deteriorating personal relationships among the cast.  Finally, in Act Three, the audience sees a performance near the end of the ten-week run when personal friction has continued and everyone is eager to be done with the play.
